A short video from Sony Pictures doesn’t reveal much, but still a bit more than what was previously known about “28 Years Later.” Some even found an encrypted message in it.
The teaser is quite mysterious and lasts only 14 seconds. The flickering of frames with black screen pauses seemingly forms a Morse code signal. On the screen, images flash that are easy to miss: red skulls and a biohazard symbol. The most meaningful frames are those of an island connected by a long bridge to the mainland and a helmet with an arrow in it. Sony cryptically provides no description of the video.
Some commentators on X Twitter spotted the word Thuersday in the Morse code, meaning Tuesday. What this could mean — we’ll probably find out on Tuesday. Perhaps it’s a trailer.
“28 Years Later” starts with a new group of survivors featuring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jack O’Connell following previous virus outbreaks in two movies. According to Ralph Fiennes, the film will feature a little boy who is looking for someone to save his mother. And the actor himself will play a doctor they meet. Cillian Murphy will again play the main character from “28 Days,” Jim.
The director and screenwriter of the original, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, have returned for this film. After “28 Years Later,” Sony plans two more sequels, one of which, reportedly, will be helmed by Nia DaCosta from the Marvel franchise. The film is expected on July 20, 2025.
