NVIDIA RTX 5080 in games — unclear video card between 4090 and 4080 Super, 8-14% faster than the latter

In terms of gaming performance, the NVIDIA RTX 5080 is only slightly ahead of the 4080 Super. In a third of modern games, you won’t be able to play at 4K 90 FPS, and some games don’t even have 4K 60 FPS.

As with the results of i, the site TechPowerUp notes that the video card could be quieter and consume less under no load. Its memory overclocking is also limited. RTX 5080 consumption in heavy modes is 325-417 watts.

Compared to the RTX 3080, the RTX 5080 has a 75% performance increase, which means that the rule of thumb is «twice the performance of every other generation». The difference with RTX 4080 Super is — 8-14%. The performance in games is very different, but not dramatically so. The NVIDIA RTX 5080 turned out to be very strange. It’s unlikely that the market needed a video card that was slightly ahead of the 4080 Super. The qualitative difference is only in DLSS 4 frame generation and optimization of the graphics architecture (on the same 5nm TSMC NVIDIA 4N process as the previous generation), but these are not the advantages that one would want in this range.
