American fantasy writer Larry Correia has released the final book of his “Saga of the Forgotten Warrior,” taking the opportunity to mention in the dedication his colleague George Martin, who fans (and now colleagues) mock for his very long work on the book “Winds of Winter.”
The dedication page was posted on Twitter by the “Game of Thrones” fans’ account Westerosies, where you can see the inscription: “To George R.R. Martin. See? It’s not that hard.”

The first part of the series “A Song of Ice and Fire” was released back in 1996, followed by four more (the last in 2011). Meanwhile, something went wrong with the next sixth one, titled “Winds of Winter,” and its awaited release stretched over a decade, even though it is not even the final one — “A Dream of Spring” was also announced, but at this pace, it now seems unlikely.
Two years ago, George Martin said that he had written 1100 pages of “Winds of Winter”, specifying that the total volume of the book would reach 1500 pages. He then gave several promises about updating the writing status soon and eventually admitted that he lacked time for the book due to excessive involvement in television projects. However, this did not stop the writer from announcing in October plans to write another story in the “Game of Thrones” universe, dedicated to the city of Braavos.
“Unfortunately, I am 13 years late. Every time I think about how I could do this? I don’t know, but it happens,” Martin wrote in his blog in December. “But it is still a priority. Many people are already writing my obituaries and saying: ‘oh, he will never finish it.’ Maybe they are right, but I am still alive.”
“A Song of Ice and Fire” served as the basis for the hit series “Game of Thrones,” however, the finale suffered from the lack of source material — the showrunners had to twist the story on their own, and, according to many fans, they did not manage to do it properly.
Currently, HBO is working on two prequel projects to the original story. Work continues on the continuation of “House of the Dragon”, and by summer or autumn the series “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will debut. Also by March, we expect the screen adaptation of Martin’s separate story “In the Lost Lands” starring Milla Jovovich in the lead role.
