On the night of December 13, the tenth anniversary ceremony of The Game Awards — «Oscars» in the world of video games took place. We have collected all the winners in one article.
To the surprise of many, Astro Bot — The 3D platformer from Team Asobi and Sony Interactive Entertainment, exclusive to PlayStation 5, dominated this year’s The Game Awards, winning «Game of the Year» and beating out such competitors as Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Highly praised by players and critics alike, the platformer has been lauded for its addictive game mechanics, well-designed levels, and a wealth of characters that reference iconic figures from other universes. Astro Bot not only won the GOTY 2024 title, but also triumphed overall, winning four awards — more than any other game this year.
Three of the awards went to the poker «bagel» Balatro: the game won in the categories of «Best Mobile Game», «Best Indie Game», and «Best Indie Debut». But Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, despite seven nominations, received only one award. The best RPG was chosen as Metaphor: ReFantazio by Atlus Studio.
