Two pieces of news: the FBI does have an informal UFO task force, like the series The X Files, but its employees can be fired for being unreliable.
As reported by Politico, FBI agents from the secretive group investigating «unidentified anomalous phenomena» (UAP) activity, better known as UFOs, are concerned that they may lose their jobs due to an FBI purge targeting officials who worked on the January 6th cases (the 2021 Trump supporters’ riots storming the Capitol).
Some agents in the group also worked on the January 6 cases. All agents in the bureau were ordered to fill out a questionnaire about their work on the Capitol attack. There are concerns that this move could lead to a purge at the agency on Trump’s orders, according to several employees who were allowed to speak anonymously. Ryan Graves, executive director of Americans for Safe Aerospace, spoke with them.
The existence of an unofficial FBI working group on this issue has not been publicly reported before. Graves and three other people who have been in contact with the group said it consists of a national program manager and more than a dozen employees across the country who spend most of their time tracking UFOs.
«While we do not comment on any questions about FBI personnel matters, the FBI investigates unknown anomalies when there is a possibility of a violation of federal law — especially illegal activities that could adversely affect our national interests — and to collect, share, and analyze intelligence to combat security threats facing the United States», — the FBI said in a statement.
In 2017, when it became known that the military was studying mysterious UFO incidents, members of both parties in Congress demanded that the government investigate them more aggressively. Many of these legislative efforts were spearheaded by then-Senator and current U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Other key Trump administration officials have also advocated for investigating unidentified objects in the sky. CIA Director John Ratcliffe, who was the Director of National Intelligence in the first Trump administration, said on Fox News in 2021 that «there are many more sightings than have been made public». So, there is hope that the Trump administration will pay more attention to this issue.
