Joseph Bennett, the co-creator of the sci-fi animated series Scavengers Reign, confirmed that the second season will not be released. But he showed its trailer.
Although the news of the series’ cancellation on Max was announced last May, the series moved to Netflix with the hope of resuming. Bennett writes on Instagram:
«Scavenger Kingdom has not been renewed for a second season at this time. I wanted to let everyone know directly because I love our fanbase so much, they’ve been such champions and I don’t want to just leave everyone behind. We had to fight hard every step of the way to create this show, starting with the short film «Scavenger» in 2016 to the release of the first season last year. It’s a practical example of how to believe in something and persevere through a million and one obstacles. But he managed to do it, especially thanks to the many people who supported him along the way».
The series, which premiered in October 2023, told the story of the survivors of an interstellar cargo ship that landed on the surface of the planet Vesta, which is teeming with strange and often deadly flora and fauna. Judging by the trailer, the second season revealed more corners of Vesta, showed flying monkeys tearing through flesh, some absurdly complex fruits and megafauna that the heroes drive like a car, pulling on internal organs, etc.
«This is not the end. There’s still a lot of story to tell, we’re ready to do another season, and we’ve prepared a teaser of what’s coming in season two in-house. Thank you again to everyone who watched and supported the show».
The author of this news story really liked the animated series. This is not a modern action movie, but a real sci-fi that intrigues with the history and mystery of the unknown — almost dead «beast» in our time. The aesthetics of Scavengers Reign comes straight from the 1970s and 1980s and is reminiscent of such fantastic masterpieces as «Wild Planet» / La Planete Sauvage (1973), «Lords of Time» / Les Maîtres du temps (1982), etc. The series can be recommended to science fiction fans, even though there is no sequel (hopefully not yet).
