YouTube automatically lowers the video quality to 144p and does not allow you to increase it — and the Internet is not to blame

YouTube users complainYouTube has started to automatically lower the video quality to 144p or 360p — even though the Internet connection remains stable at this time.

At the same time, attempts to manually switch to a higher resolution do not succeed. Judging by complaintsthat have been circulating on social media in recent days, the problem occurs on PCs, Smart TVs, and most often on iOS — while owners of Android smartphones and tablets have not had any problems.

  • «Even when the internet is great, my YouTube app on my iPad is having problems, dropping the quality to 144p. I updated the app, but nothing changed».
  • «I had the same problem a week ago on my iPhone. I sent a message to YouTube support and they didn’t offer any response. It’s so ridiculous. You choose the highest quality image and it plays in the lowest».

YouTube has already recognizedthat the problem is on his side — and although he did not name the cause, he promises to fix it as soon as possible.

«We know that some people are experiencing lower quality video playback than usual. Rest assured, we are actively looking into this! We will provide additional information in due course. Thank you for your patience.

Interestingly, in most posts, users do not mention whether they used ad blockers while watching — otherwise, one could assume that this another measure of YouTube’s struggle with uBlock and the like, which simply got out of hand. Previously, the company slowed down the app for users with blockers and limited the number of viewsand also published giant advertising banners with a call to disable blockers or upgrade to Premium.
