Game developers are falling into the same trap again — The PC port of Rise of the Ronin met players with a terrible technical condition.
At first, Rise of the Ronin was only available on PS5 but has now made its debut on PC. However, the port received a flurry of negative feedback due to terrible optimization. Judging by the reviews on Steam, the game also has problems on top-end graphics cards, which is why it received «mixed» ratings.
Rise of the Ronin on PC runs poorly even on RTX 4090, and has massive stuttering and performance below 60 fps. For example, a player can get 70 fps and then quickly drop to about 30 fps for no apparent reason.
At the start, the picture looks so bad that it is compared to «early PS4 graphics». This is quite strange because the game is not a technical miracle and does not load the system with realistic graphics, but still does not pull out stable FPS.
«Breaks my heart to do this, but I just can’t recommend the game in its current state. The optimization is as bad as everyone is saying. The game is pretty cool, but optimizations is one of the worst i’ve seen in a while. Low FPS, slow-mo in cities. Can’t recommend», — they write in the reviews on Steam.
Many people have already decided not to tolerate the problem and are requesting a refund. Others write that they will wait for patches, and some even call for avoiding the purchase altogether.
«I’m really getting fed up with poorly optimized PC ports lately. It’s so frustrating», — added in the reviews.
But not all users were affected by the terrible optimization. For example, someone wrote that the game works «flawlessly» but added that «maybe I just got lucky». Those who were not affected by the optimization problems said that the project might appeal to fans of Wo Long or even Sekiro.

In general, the story of bad ports is as familiar as its image in a mirror. PC gamers have seen many poorly optimized games, including God of War Ragnarök. Users reported numerous technical issues, including low FPS, freezes, and sudden crashes. Another bunch of technical problems at the launch were encountered by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Monster Hunter Wilds and now Rise of the Ronin has joined the list.
So far, there are no official comments from the developers. However, based on the experience of Wo Long or other Koei Tecmo projects, it may take several months to fix the problem.
Despite an unsuccessful launch on PC, the game received decent reviews during its release on PS5. In particular, on OpenCritic it has 77 points. Some people compared the project to Assassin’s Creedbut with a Japanese setting. So far, we can say that the unsuccessful port of Rise of the Ronin may encourage fans of the Japanese atmosphere to look more at Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which will be released soon.
