The Security Service of Ukraine detained an IT specialist in Dnipro who was guiding Russian missiles and drones at military facilities in the city.
This is stated in the release on the SBU’s official website.
Recruited through «Vkontakte»
It is reported that in the summer of 2023, he began publishing posts on the social network «Vkontakte» in support of the Kremlin regime.
In this way, he attracted the attention of «one of the well-known bloggers of Putin’s United Russia party», who offered the IT specialist cooperation in favor of the Russian Federation.
To collect intelligence, the defendant traveled around the city in «minibuses», from which he secretly photographed the places of possible location or passage of Ukrainian troops.
After receiving the intelligence, he shared it in public media controlled by the Russian secret service.
Later, the enemy used this data to prepare missile and drone strikes on the Dnipro.
Detention and search
It is reported that SBU officers exposed the offender at the initial stage of his subversive activities.
Then, comprehensive measures were taken to secure the locations of the Defense Forces and to document the suspect step by step in order to identify his «contact» from Russia.
During the searches, the SBU seized computer equipment and a cell phone with evidence of criminal activity. Also, transfers of funds to his cryptocurrency wallet from Russia were recorded.
The offender faces up to 12 years in prison.
