Microsoft developers seem to be working on a new 3D icon design for the next version of Office.
Pros in words Reddit users, the new 3D icons for Office applications were introduced in an email survey by Microsoft. The survey included a brief overview of the new look and feel of the icons, as well as a request for comments from users on the changes to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications.

The new Microsoft 365 app icons look much more three-dimensional and follow the 3D emoji design added to Windows 11 in 2023. In addition, the Microsoft sign-in design was recently updated with the addition of a dark mode and the use of the Fluent 2 tool.
Microsoft hasn’t changed the appearance of icons for Office applications since 2018. It’s worth noting that Reddit users have mostly responded favorably to the new look of Office icons introduced by the company.
«They look surprisingly good. It seems that the industry is finally moving away from the terrible era of flat design. It lasted more than a decade. Samsung’s Android 15 One UI 7 has new icons that don’t look as good as these, but are much better than before. Do it, Microsoft», — some Reddit users wrote.
Microsoft has not yet officially introduced the new icon design and is probably waiting for user feedback before making further changes or offering something alternative.
We have already written, Microsoft has raised the price of its Office 365 subscription, but added AI-based tools to the suite. Tools with options for document analysis, text and image generation will be included automatically in the more expensive Microsoft 365 subscription programs.
In addition, the company offered a free desktop version Microsoft Office. However, this version comes with ad support. This version also has restrictions on saving documents.
In addition to this, last fall the company has released a new version of Office designed for people who don’t want to subscribe to Microsoft 365. A separate release of Microsoft Office 2024 is now available for both consumers and small businesses. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook for Mac and PC.
