MacOS vulnerabilities could lead to cryptocurrency theft

Former Binance CEO and founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) drew attention to vulnerabilities of the macOS operating system. They put users of laptops based on Intel chips at risk of cryptocurrency theft.

«If you are using an Intel-based MacBook, update your system immediately! Stay SAFUStands for Secure Asset Fund for Users and is often used to call for caution with crypto assets.!”» — Zhao wrote in his post on the X platform.

One of the vulnerabilities concerns JavaScriptCore — the engine for executing JavaScript code. Attackers could use malicious websites to execute certain commands without user permission to steal sensitive data (e.g., keys to crypto wallets and more).

Another issue was related to WebKit, which is used in the Safari browser. This vulnerability allowed attackers to run scripts for an XSS (cross-site scripting) attack, replacing legitimate sites with fraudulent ones.

Apple has already released a security update to address these issues for: iOS 18.1.1, macOS Sequoia 15.1.1, iOS 17.7.2.

In 2020, Apple announced that it was abandoning Intel CPUs, which had been used in its products for about 15 years. Subsequently, the company introduced its first MacBook Air with the M1 processor, which became extremely successful. This year, Apple announces powerful M4 chips.
