On April 19, Netflix released the sequel to Zack Snyder’s space saga — «Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver». The movie is available in Ukrainian dubbing and with Ukrainian subtitles, and lasts a little over 2 hours.
At the same time, the first reviews of specialized publications — were released, and the general assessments are rather weak, to put it mildly. On Metacritic, at the time of publication, the film was rated as follows to a modest 38 points out of 100 (based on 15 reviews).
The first part was released last year in December and, despite mixed reviews, took first place in the weekly Netflix English-language movie ranking, bypassing the popular at the time «Illusion of Security». «Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver» continues the epic story of Kora and the rest of the warriors who are ready to sacrifice everything in the fight alongside the people of Veldt to protect the peaceful village that has recently become a new home for those whose homeland was taken away by the Mother World.
«On the eve of battle, the warriors will have to face the truth that lies in their own past, and each of them will reveal what they are really fighting for. The entire power of Realm is brought to bear on the rebellion, and in this hour of need, unbreakable bonds are formed, new heroes emerge, and legends are born», — the official synopsis says.
«Mutinous Moon» was conceived by Snyder more than a decade ago — initially as part of «Star Wars», which the director presented to Lucasfilm between the completion of the prequel trilogy in 2005 and the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012. The story was subsequently reworked by producer Eric Newman and Snyder himself, first as an original television series and then as a feature film.
Snyder invited a high-level cast to realize his vision: Sofia Boutella as Cora, Phra Phi as Balizarius, Charlie Hunnam («Pacific Rim»), Cary Elwes («The Princess Bride»), Ed Skrein and Michiel Hausman from «Game of Thrones», Djimon Hounsou («Shazam!») and others. Even Anthony Hopkins appears as the voice of a mechanical knight fighting alongside Cora.
Before the launch of the second part, the director hinted in an interview that he plans to continue his saga — and to release a total of 4–6 films. If Netflix does give the green light to proceed, Snyder says he and his co-writers Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten already have a story to tell.
«We are waiting for all these films to come out, including the director’s cut,» the director said. «In the meantime, I will probably make one more small film before we decide what to do with the other rebel films. But yes, I am happy to make them if it is confirmed in the future».
