OpenAI has introduced a new subscription level called ChatGPT Pro. Users can pay $200 (≈8290₴) per month for virtually unlimited access to ChatGPT tools and an exclusive new AI model.
The new plan includes everything from OpenAI’s $20 (≈828₴) monthly subscription, as well as significantly more access to the GPT-4o and o1 AI models. With the ChatGPT Pro subscription, which will cost $2400 (≈99,477₴) for a full year, users can also use an exclusive model from OpenAI called o1 pro, which has more processing power to process responses.
«Active ChatGPT users at this stage are using it a lot and want more computing power than you can get for $20», — said CEO Sam Altman during the video broadcast announcing a new premium tier.
Although the high price may shock many consumers, this subscription is aimed at hyperactive users who want almost unlimited access and researchers who potentially want to experiment with using ChatGPT for more complex tasks.
«People will find the o1-pro model most useful for complex math, science, or programming tasks,» said Jason Wei, OpenAI’s research scientist, during the video broadcast.
OpenAI has not announced any changes to the pricing of its other subscription plans, and the free option remains available. The company’s first subscription option for a consumer chatbot, ChatGPT Plus, was originally launched last February for $20 per month and has remained at that price for now. At the Plus level, users get access to most of ChatGPT’s new features and generative AI models. These subscribers also have fewer speed limits from OpenAI compared to free users.
Although ChatGPT Pro subscribers get what OpenAI calls «unlimited access» to the o1 model, GPT-4o model, and Advanced Voice Mode, the startup emphasizes that users still have to follow the standard terms of service. For example, sharing an account with several people can lead to account blocking. Users can request a refund for the $200 subscription within the first two weeks of purchase if they are not satisfied through the OpenAI online support center.
In addition to ChatGPT Pro, OpenAI announced that model o1 which focuses on «reasoning» capabilities and multi-step processing of user input, is no longer in a limited preview. According to the startup, this fully released model of o1 now answers questions faster, can accept images as input, and makes fewer errors. The startup plans to add web browsing and file uploading features to customize o1 in ChatGPT in the future.
