«Spider-Man: Across the Universe» got directors and a premiere delay

Directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson are set to shoot the animated film “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.” However, the film is significantly delayed.

Both have been in the franchise from the beginning. Persichetti was part of the directing team for the Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” in 2018 and was the executive producer for last year’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” Thompson worked as an art director for “Into the Spider-Verse” and was involved in developing the franchise’s groundbreaking visual style. The film’s writers are Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Previously, unofficial sources from Sony reported that “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” has significant delays in the pipeline. However, the source assured that the studio “cares about the film with great tender love.” Apparently, Sony scrapped most of the existing script for creative reasons, and the film is unlikely to be released before 2027 or even later.

Last week, Spider-Verse voice actor Jarel Jerome said he had not yet worked on “Beyond the Spider-Verse.” He noted that he is just as clueless about the film as the fans are. Initially, the film was supposed to be released in 2024, following last year’s success of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”.

Rumors link the delay to a conflict between the creative duo of writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller with Sony. Crew members describe the filming process as extremely difficult, associated with constant revisionism and “death by a thousand cuts.” Regardless, as we see, the duo is again working on the film.
