Sales of PS5 Pro in the first months were weaker than those of PS4 Pro at launch.
In the United States, PS5 Pro’s overall sales failed to outpace PS4 Pro’s, and are now at or near the same level. Analyst Mat Piscatella says that the console did not end up being a huge success as Sony expected.
The latest model of the console costs $700, while the PS4 Pro started with a price tag of $400. In Ukraine, the PS5 Pro was initially priced at more than ₴40,000. The high cost definitely limits the audience, even at the presentation, players were outraged by the price. Sony thought differently — they said that such a cost will not be negatively affected on sales, but it is not known whether they have changed their minds now.
In the PS4 line, sales of the Pro model accounted for only 15% of the total. One wonders if Sony’s latest console is not taking an even smaller share now. Perhaps sales were negatively affected not only by the price but also by the fact that Sony released the PS5 Pro without major exclusives.
In addition, there were no significant technical improvements. The PS5 Pro has a more powerful GPU (+67% over the PS5), but at one time, the PS4 Pro outperformed the PS4 by 100%. The RAM of the new console has increased by 28%, which is only 5% more than the changes between PS4 Pro and PS4. At the same time, the internal memory increased significantly — from 1TB to 2TB, but the problem was easily solved thanks to the SSD.
There seem to be several reasons for the drop in sales: overpricing, minor changes, and the release of the console without major exclusives. Sony does not officially disclose PS5 Pro sales, but general statistics shows that the PlayStation 5 has almost caught up with the PS4 over the same lifecycle period, with —75 million vs. 76.5 million consoles sold.
Along with the recent release of the Pro version, the company announced further plans for releases on its consoles, a huge success Astro Bot encouraged the company to release more family games in the future. Sony also expects the upcoming release to be successful Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Tsushima on a PC, Monster Hunter Wilds and GTA 6.
