While the Wi-Fi 7 wireless communication standard is already being introduced in mobile devices, Ukraine is only preparing to authorize the use of Wi-Fi 6E technology. Thus, the National Commission for the Regulation of Electronic Communications (NCCIR) has proposed to the Ministry of Digital Transformation to introduce Wi-Fi 6E in Ukraine by adding the relevant frequencies to the Plan for the Distribution and Use of Radio Frequency Spectrum. This was reported by the commission’s press service.

«The increased bandwidth for Wi-Fi networks (480 MHz of additional spectrum) means faster speeds, lower latency, and the simultaneous transmission of much more information for Wi-Fi users», the explanation says.

Wi-Fi 6E uses the same 802.11ax technology for wireless connectivity as Wi-Fi 6, but extends it to the new 6 GHz band. It uses up to 14 additional 80 MHz channels or 7 additional 160 MHz channels, making it suitable for traffic-intensive applications such as HD or VR content streaming. One of the significant advantages is the use of less congested spectrum away from legacy Wi-Fi 4 or Wi-Fi 5 devices. Consequently, the signal should be more stable.

The conditions for the use of the latest Wi-Fi 6E radio equipment standard in Ukraine will be similar to those in Europe – on the basis of general authorization without assigning a radio frequency.

Wi-Fi 6E technology was adopted back in 2020. According to the Wi-Fi Alliance, this standard is currently authorized for use in the EU and most countries of the world, with the exception of some African countries.
