An unusual event happened in the art world: a painting created by a humanoid robot found its owner for a fabulous sum of money.

«AI God» is the title of a work depicting the mathematician and cryptographer Alan Turing. Its creator is an extraordinary artist Ai-Da, who is called the world’s first «ultra-realistic robot artist».

The bidding at the New York auction house Sotheby’s proved to be tense. By data According to The Art Newspaper, collectors spared no expense — it took 27 rounds of bidding before the painting found a new owner.

How can a robot draw? On the Ai-Da website it is noted the idea is that a robot «sees» objects with cameras in its eyes, processes the image using artificial intelligence algorithms, and brings the idea to life with a robotic arm. Behind the creation of this technological marvel is Aidan Miller, a contemporary art specialist who wanted to start a discussion about how technology is changing our lives.

«Today’s record-breaking sale of the first work by a robot artist — is not just another auction. This is a moment that will go down in the history of contemporary art and shows how artificial intelligence is influencing the global art market», Sotheby’s representatives emphasized.

By the way, the painting has already visited high offices — it was exhibited at the UN headquarters in Geneva during the «AI fo Good». There, «AI God» was part of a five-part polytope.
