AMD has officially unveiled the new Ryzen 8000HX series of premium mobile gaming processors. These models joined the HX line, which is focused on high-performance gaming and other resource-intensive tasks. The company expects the new products to provide «desktop performance in a» portable format for gamers and content creators who are constantly on the go.
The new processors are based on the Zen 4 microarchitecture and are manufactured using the 5nm process technology. The Ryzen 8000HX lineup includes four models: Ryzen 9 8945HX, Ryzen 9 8940HX, Ryzen 7 8840HX, Ryzen 7 8745HX. These chips include up to 16 computing cores and support up to 32 instruction threads. The built-in graphics on the RDNA 2 architecture is designed for light gaming, video viewing, and standard PC tasks. As a rule, high-performance mobile systems require a discrete graphics card. Detailed characteristics of different models are presented in the following table.
Model | Kernels / Threads | Boost frequency / Base frequency | Cache | GPU | cTDP |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Ryzen 9 8945HX | 16 / 32 | Up to 5.4 / 2.5 GHz | 80 MB | 2CU 610M | 55-75 W |
Ryzen 9 8940HX | 16 / 32 | Up to 5.3 / 2.4 GHz | 80 MB | 2CU 610M | 55-75 W |
Ryzen 7 8840HX | 12 /24 | Up to 5.1 / 2.9 GHz | 76 MB | 2CU 610M | 45-75 W |
Ryzen 7 8745HX | 8 / 16 | Up to 5.1 / 3.6 GHz | 40 MB | 2CU 610M | 45-75 W |
While AMD has traditionally referred to its processors with integrated graphics as APUs, the company has now decided to use this name only for models with more powerful integrated graphics. Additional features include support for DDR5-5200 RAM in SODIMM form factor and PCIe Gen5 support for modern high-speed drives and discrete graphics cards.
These processors are targeted at gaming laptops and mobile workstations where maximum performance without compromise is important.
Previously AMD presents Ryzen AI MAX (Strix Halo) processors ─ powerful APUs with Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 for mobile systems.
