An enthusiast turned a retro PlayStation 1 console into a modern gaming PC

A Reddit user has created a unique gift for his son by converting a classic PlayStation 1 into a full-fledged personal computer.

The author of the project, Ayucrabby, realized the idea with the help of a «rotary tool, hand tools, and his own calculations. According to him, much of the work had to be done by improvisation.

The computer is equipped with a Gigabyte A520i-Dash DC motherboard, Ryzen 5700x processor, and 32 GB of RAM. A 2 TB Lexar NM790 drive is used for data storage. The system is complemented by a GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card and a 40mm fan for NVMe cooling.

During gaming sessions, the system temperature reaches 70–85 degrees. It is noteworthy that this is the author’s first experience in building a PC, and the entire project, including planning, took less than a month.

As a reminder, the Chinese Notebook Review Studio introduced Their BBook AI Original Edition is equipped with a 17.3-inch 4K IPS display and retains all the technical characteristics of the original console. However, the device weighing more than 4 kilograms requires a constant connection to the power supply and generates noise up to 71.3 decibels during operation.
