Anova Precision Oven 2.0: «smart» oven that recognizes food, cooks for you and requires a separate subscription

Anova has released a new tabletop oven, the Precision Oven 2.0, which has a number of smart features. It is even capable of recognizing foods and offering a variety of recipes based on those ingredients.

The Anova Precision Oven 2.0 is a combined all-in-one oven with convection and steamer capabilities. It can be used to bake bread, roast a whole chicken, air fry frozen French fries, dry fruit or prepare sous vide without the need for bags or a water bath. Thanks to its three temperature sensors, the device can control the temperature to within 0.5 degrees. Version 2.0 also features improved steam injection from the water tank on the side and improved heating elements on the bottom of the oven. But the most interesting thing about it is the built-in «smart» functions and the precision of the cooking conditions.

The internal camera of the Precision Oven 2.0 can recognize food and make cooking suggestions. Anova offers an optional app that can use your mobile device’s camera to recognize packaged foods and recommend the best way to cook them, giving you access to additional recipes and video feeds from inside the oven. Anova Intelligence features, such as in-app recipes, camera recognition, automatic recipe setup for the oven, and the ability to remotely monitor cooking «from anywhere», are considered premium and require a subscription fee of $1.99 per month or $9.99 per year.

Anova says that other camera-based features will be available soon, such as reminding you to deep clean and detecting cooking errors before the dish is ruined. There is no information about additional charges for these features. However, when Anova recently introduced subscriptions for its popular sous vide devices, it restricted access to features such as remote control for new customers, while leaving it free for longtime users.

The original Anova Precision Oven model debuted at a price of $599, and the new «smart» Anova Precision Oven 2.0 costs $1199. And it’s worth remembering that to use the most interesting new features, you need to pay an additional subscription.
