Apple plans to release a smart security camera in 2026 – Ming-Chi Kuo

It looks like Apple is planning to expand its smart home product portfolio to include a smart security camera. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the company plans to start producing an IP camera for the smart home in 2026 and aims to sell more than 10 million units a year.

According to Kuo, the «camera will be designed to integrate seamlessly with other Apple hardware products through the» wireless connection and will likely integrate deeply with Apple Intelligence and Siri voice assistant.

A security camera is a logical choice for a new product as Apple looks for the next big hit among smart home devices. They are among the fastest growing types of home devices, have clear benefits and potential for use in every household, and offer a great opportunity to build Apple’s ecosystem in the smart home category.

For example, if you have an Apple Home security camera, it’s convenient to have additional Apple devices like HomePod or Apple TV to use as a home hub to record video and stream it to Apple TV.

In addition to revenue from premium devices, cameras can provide recurring revenue from subscriptions. The HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV) service, which is included with the iCloud plan, stores recorded video from cameras on your iCloud account. The number of cameras supported depends on your subscription, which can cost up to $11 per month. To use HKSV, you also need an Apple home hub, such as HomePod or Apple TV, which can analyze video and send alerts about people, animals, vehicles, and packages.
