BYD has unveiled the latest addition to its European electric vehicle lineup. The new Atto 2 is a compact crossover that will compete with popular models such as the Vauxhall Frontera and Renault 4.
The BYD Atto 2 is the smaller brother of the Atto 3. It is 4.31 m long, 1.83 m wide and 1.68 m high. Despite its compact size, the Atto 2 can accommodate five passengers and has a trunk volume of 400 liters.
Atto 2 is built on BYD e-Platform 3.0. It is BYD’s first compact model to feature a cell-to-body (CTB) design. This design not only improves structural integrity but also allows for a more spacious interior. The electric vehicle is equipped with a front-axle motor that produces 174 hp. It is powered by a 45.1 kWh battery pack. This configuration promises a range of 312 km.
In terms of design, the Atto 2 offers classic headlights and a black element between them, reminiscent of a traditional grille. The rear end has an LED strip that connects the two taillights – a visual signature of BYD.
Inside the Atto 2, there is a 15.6-inch swivel touchscreen infotainment system that can be used in either portrait or landscape orientation. It provides access to a range of functions, including navigation, entertainment and vehicle settings.
BYD is positioning the Atto 2 as a «affordable crossover for the European market». Although official prices have not yet been confirmed, they are expected to be around €24 thousand. This model will go on sale in Europe in March 2025. A version with a larger battery is expected later this year.
