ChatGPT, an AI-based search engine, is now available to all users. OpenAI made the announcement as part of a new part of its 12-day stream. The company has also introduced an “optimized” version of the function for mobile devices and the ability to search in the enhanced voice input mode.
First up ChatGPT search engine was available only to paid subscribers – since October. It will now be available for free, although users need to have an account and be logged in.
One of the improvements for mobile search is that ChatGPT looks more like a traditional search engine. When searching for a specific location, such as restaurants or local attractions, ChatGPT displays a list of results with accompanying images, ratings, and opening hours. Clicking on a place opens up additional information about it, and you can also view a map with directions right in the app.
Another feature is aimed at speeding up the search in ChatGPT when you are looking for certain types of sites, such as “hotel booking sites”. Instead of immediately generating an answer, ChatGPT will display links to the sites before taking the time to provide additional information about each option. Additionally, ChatGPT can automatically provide up-to-date information from websites when using the Enhanced Voice Input mode, although this is only available to paid users.
