Warner Bros. has released a teaser for «One Battle After Another» —, a new film by «Licorice Pizza» director Paul Thomas Anderson.
«One Battle at a Time» — is a loose adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s 1997 novel «Wine Country», which is set in the present day. According to the book’s synopsis, it tells the story of a «zone of blessed anarchy in Northern California, which becomes the last refuge of the hippie».
«Here, in Orwell’s 1984, Zoid Wheeler and his daughter Prairie are searching for her long-lost mother, a radical from the sixties», — from the book’s description.
In fact, these were the only details that were known before the teaser was released; there were also rumors that the project would be the most expensive for the director and would cost about $140 million, according to the report Variety.
The video begins with Leonardo DiCaprio’s character (played by Zoid Wheeler) sipping a drink and suddenly shuddering from gunshots, then we are shown a pregnant Teyana Taylor, whose rifle is intercepted by her adult child, played by Chase Infinity, in the next shot. The cast also includes Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Shaina McGale, and Benicio del Toro.
It’s not the first time Paul Thomas Anderson has adapted Pynchon’s works, as he has a comedy «Birth Defects» with Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin and Owen Wilson, which was released in 2014. However, the director became famous for his 2021 historical drama «Licorice Pizza», which was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. Interestingly, despite the critical acclaim, the film failed to recover its $40 million budget.
«One Battle at a Time» will debut in theaters on September 26, while the full trailer is expected next week.
