The animated series Creature Commandos, helmed by DC co-chair James Gunn, snagged a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes after its debut on December 5 and, as expected, has been renewed for a second season.
Creature Commandos tells the story of a group of imprisoned monsters recruited for covert operations. This project essentially opened the door to a revamped DC universe, crafted by Gunn and his colleague Peter Safran, and it did so quite successfully.
“James Gunn’s classic recipe of lovable weirdos, killer tunes, plenty of jokes, and violence is presented in full force but in a new, fresh way that translates well into animation,” wrote Tyler Robertson in his review for IGN Movies.
In the first season, the monsters from Creature Commandos were voiced by David Harbour (Frankenstein), Indira Varma (Bride), Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.), Zoe Chao (Nina Mazurski), Alan Tudyk (Doctor Phosphorus), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), and others.
The final episode of the first season will debut on January 9 on the Max streaming service.
Remember, one of the next projects in the revamped DC universe will be “Superman” with David Corenswet in the lead role. Last week, the first teaser trailer was released, which garnered a record 250 million views in a day for DC and Warner Bros. Meanwhile, internal screenings of the first version of the movie, according to rumors, did not impress viewers (some called the movie a mess), and the studio has already planned additional shooting.
