Elon Musk called Assassin's Creed Shadows «terrible», and Ubisoft trolled him for cheating

Ubisoft is once again at the center of a scandal, but this time it is not Assassin’s Creed Shadows bugs that caused it, but Elon Musk.

The company and the billionaire had a dispute that escalated into trolling each other. Musk called Shadows «terrible», and the developers did not want to keep silent.

It all started when the developer and gaming industry critic Mark Kern (Grummz) criticized Ubisoft for its marketing strategy, in particular for its cooperation with popular streamers. He shared a post with HasanAbi, who promoted the game as part of paid content, and accused Ubisoft of supporting «the wrong» influencers.

This was picked up by Elon Musk. In response to Grummz’s post, he wrote:

We didn’t have to wait long — the official Assassin’s Creed Shadows account replied directly to Musk:

«Is that what the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account told you?», — wrote Ubisoft.

Ubisoft’s post received almost 400 thousand likes in a matter of hours, and commenters immediately realized that it was a reference to the recent story with Musk. He was repeatedly accused of uses the services of boosters in Path of Exile 2 and Diablo 4, and also buys equipment for real money. Musk himself initially denied this, but later admitted that he did not want to lag hardcore players, especially from Asia.

In other words, Ubisoft not only responded to the hate, but also hit Musk with his own weapon. And the audience’s reaction shows that this post hit the mark. But the story didn’t end there. After that, Grummz shared an article claiming that Assassin’s Creed Shadows was not the hit that Ubisoft «desperately needed». In response, the game’s account he answered dryly: «Our game is out».

Users exploded — it was the shortest possible and at the same time painful comment that emphasized the real status of the game. After all, despite the criticism, Shadows had a strong start: more than 1 million players played it per day, and critics and players on Steam received it warmly. Yes, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla had a better start, but there is no less discussion around Shadows. Even if part of this discussion turned into a war of words between fans and critics.
