First trailer «Mission Impossible 8»: Tom Cruise vs. artificial intelligence and a Russian warship

Published by Kateryna Danshyna

The eighth installment of the series has a new name «Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning» and a premiere date set for May 23, 2025.

Tom Cruise is returning to the role of Ethan Hunt for the eighth time to save the world — this time from a dangerous AI program called The Entity, which seems to predict the protagonist’s every move and could lead to disaster if it falls into the wrong hands.

In the trailer, Cruise performs some crazy stunts to eventually reach a sunken Russian submarine (hello from Ukrainian drones) where The Entity is hiding, but he encounters an old enemy from the past, Gabriel (Esai Morales).

In addition to Cruise and Morales, the cast of «Mission Impossible 8» is joined by Simon Pegg, Vianne Reames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Clementieff, Shay Wiggum, Henry Czerny, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga, and Indira Varma. Among the newcomers: Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, Holt McCullaney, Katie O’Brien, Nick Offerman and Tramell Tillman.

Christopher McQuarrie directed the film and wrote the screenplay — he previously worked on three films in the series, and also collaborated with Cruise on «Top Gun: Maverick».

Filming of «Mission: Impossible 8» resumed in March 2024, after a forced pause due to the Hollywood strikes — by that time, approximately 40% of the material had been shot, including scenes in Africa and the Arctic (with some media outlets reporting that certain scenes were planned to be shot on the ISS, but something went wrong).

The rumored production budget for the eighth installment of the franchise «Mission Impossible» exceeded $300 million.
