Foldable Apple iPhone to debut in 2026, and iPhone 17 Air will get a «nice price», — WSJ

A new report from The Wall Street Journal spills the beans on Apple’s upcoming foldable devices and the price of the super-thin iPhone 17 Air.

As the publication notes, Apple is currently working on two foldable devices — an iPhone and an iPad, set to release in 2026 and 2028 respectively.

Mark Gurman previously mentioned that the foldable iPad will be gigantic (reaching 20 inches when unfolded) and will run both iPadOS and macOS apps. Meanwhile, the foldable iPhone will “unfold to a display size bigger than the iPhone 16 Pro Max” — meaning at least 7 inches (the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display).

It’s noted that Apple experimented with displays that were on the outside of the device when folded, but has now preferred an inward fold, similar to other devices on the market. The devices have been in development for quite some time, but the company has faced issues with the hinge and casing, leading to some delays.

Regarding the iPhone 17 Air, the WSJ has confirmed many key details, such as a simplified camera system and an 8-millimeter profile. Initially expected to be Apple’s priciest smartphone, the ultra-thin iPhone is now reported to cost less than an iPhone 16 Pro (starting at $999) and will be around $900 — roughly the price of the iPhone 16 Plus, which the Air will replace in the lineup.
