The filming of «Frankenstein» started on January 25, and only now Vanity Fair has given us a brief glimpse behind the scenes of Guillermo del Toro’s dark fantasy.
Despite the fact that this is just one working shot from the filming (you can see the camera and microphone in the photo), it allows us to somewhat assess the atmosphere — and some publications have already begun to compare it to the adventure computer games of the 1990s.
«The image resembles an interactive video from an adventure game — from the angle to the lighting, the giant green vats, and the dummy corpse that looks unnatural in the frame. The image simply requires a hand-shaped mouse cursor», — writes Polygon.
«Frankenstein» del Toro — is a new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s famous novel «Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus». Oscar Isaac plays the role of Victor Frankenstein himself (in case anyone didn’t recognize the actor from the back), while Jacob Elordi will play the monster. Mia Goth will appear as Frankenstein’s bride Elizabeth, and Christoph Waltz has taken on the role of Dr. Pretorius. Also among the cast are Charles Dance, Bern Gorman, Ralph Ineson and David Bradley.
«The thing is, I’ve been dreaming of making a movie «Frankenstein» since I was a kid», — said Guillermo del Toro in an interview with ComingSoon back in 2008.
It is known that the director has many collectibles with Boris Karloff’s image on them as a monster, while he had been developing the project for more than 10 years, coming close to a screening in 2018 — but Universal Pictures canceled the project and Netflix came to the rescue.
The film is expected to debut at the Venice Film Festival and be released on Netflix in the fall of 2025.
