Website DOU surveyed Ukrainian IT professionals about their gaming preferences and favorite gaming platforms, and found out, among other things, how the situation differs by specialty (interesting spoiler: those who play have a higher median salary).
In total, 13,000 Ukrainian IT professionals took part in the survey, of which about 55% play computer games — and their median salary is $200 higher than that of those who do not play, and the highest is $3000-6000.
The distribution by marital status looks interesting: among those who chose «cohabitation», the largest share of those who play is almost 60%, while married IT workers play the least.
The most active gamers in Ukrainian IT are people under 25 and 25-29 years old, while the least active are IT professionals aged 35+.
Considering the distribution by specialties, game designers, artists/animators, and sysadmins are expected to play the most.
Almost half of C-level IT professionals (CTO, COO, CEO, founders, etc.) also chose the option «play» —, meaning that this category is more common than testers, managers, data science specialists, marketers, and HR.
In general, IT professionals choose several platforms to play games — more than 43%, but when it comes to individual devices, the PC is the undisputed leader (40%), and PlayStation is only in third place (about 12%). The share of those who play Xbox and mobile devices is much smaller — but, judging by the graph, these specialists have the highest median salary.
There is also an interesting connection between the age of gamers and their platform of choice: the youngest and oldest gamers play on PCs. At the same time, mobile gamers have the highest median age. The main competitors of this rating — Xbox and PlayStation — differ, but not too much. However, the oldest fan of Sony’s console is 61 years old, while the Xbox fan is 43 years old.
However, the survey also included IT people with rare or extravagant devices: PSP, VR, or Playdate (there are seven of them). More than 2.5% of IT people have a Steam Deck.
