During the announcement of RTX 5080 graphics cards, Nvidia set the recommended price for them at $999. But it looks like this price will be only on paper. The harsh reality shows a different price level – about 20-30% higher.
Information about the prices of some RTX 5080 graphics cards from third-party manufacturers has appeared on the web. This information came from the Finnish retailer Proshop, which rushed to publish Gigabyte RTX 5080 models with prices. And only one video card out of seven has a recommended price in Finland – €1229. Only the Gigabyte WindForce model has this price tag, and the other six variants are much more expensive.
Even the most affordable of these offerings, belonging to the WindForce, Gaming OC, and Aero OC series, cost from €1419. The Aorus variants are even more expensive, with the most expensive version of them, the Aorus Xtreme WaterForce, costing €1669. This means that Gigabyte has one RTX 5080 board, the WindForce, at the recommended price, while the other options are 15-35% more expensive.
Back when Nvidia announced the RTX 5080 prices, there were fears that the actual prices would be higher than the recommended ones. On the one hand, it was great to see that the recommended price of the RTX 5080 is $999, although rumors suggested that Nvidia could sell it for $1200 in the US (and proportionally in other countries), or possibly much more. Especially considering that the price of the RTX 5090 was overpriced.
On the other hand, the main concern was that most third-party models would not be sold at the recommended price. This seems to be the case with Gigabyte RTX 5080 graphics cards – at least if the information from the Proshop is correct.
At this time, the listed prices have not yet been officially announced by the manufacturer. It is possible that this is an incorrect presentation of information by the store. There is also a chance that other manufacturers will not follow suit and offer more models at the recommended price. Or, rather, their second-tier models, which are higher than the basic ones, will show a smaller price increase.
If very few third-party RTX 5080 models are sold at (or close to) the recommended price, it’s likely that these cards will sell out instantly at launch – and possibly for a long time afterwards (along with Nvidia’s Founders Edition).
