Hangar 13 accidentally «leaked» the release date of Mafia: The Old Country on Steam

It appears that Hangar 13 «leaked the» release date of Mafia: The Old Country — and did so via the official Steam blog.

This was the first mention of the exact release date, and previously it was only vaguely mentioned as sometime in «2025». The studio was supposed to announce the planned live stream on May 8 at PAX East. The studio planned to talk about 23 years of the franchise, share a new trailer, show footage from the game, and answer questions. Hangar 13 president Nick Baines, game director Alex Cox, and film director Thomas Grebicek will take part in the event.

But the most interesting thing is the line with the release date, which was later removed from the post. The studio posted the following:

Although the mention has already been removed, fans of the series managed to take screenshots and spread the word. It is expected that Mafia: The Old Country is supposed to be a return to basics, and the story is set in Sicily in the early 1900s. The player takes on the role of Enzo Favara — a guy who worked under duress as a child. He wants to prove that he is worthy of the trust of the Cosa Nostra, especially the family of Don Torrisi.

The developers promise a linear storyline, an emphasis on realism, knife fights, shooting, old cars, and horseback riding. The game is being created on Unreal Engine 5. It looks promising, although there is no word on system requirements yet.

Mafia: The Old Country is the first full-fledged new installment in the series since Mafia 3 (2016). It was announced last year at Gamescom in August, and the trailer was shown in December at The Game Awards. If the date from Steam is confirmed, then it turns out that Mafia, Borderlands 4 і GTA 6 are several months apart. But developers do not expect that Mafia: The Old Country will compete with GTA 6.

Hangar 13 is being developed by the same people who made Mafia 3, the remake of the first part, and the latest TopSpin 2K25. We will find out soon whether the game will be released on August 8. But it will definitely have Ukrainian localization whenever it happens
