The new flagships Huawei Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro are very similar, but you can immediately tell them apart by the location of the flash — above and below the camera circle, respectively.
To begin with, the Mate 70 is the smallest phone of the four in the lineup and the only one with a flat screen. However, its diagonal is not that small at 6.7″. The smartphone is only 7.8 mm thick (160.9 x 75.9 x 7.8 mm, 203 g). Mate 70, like the rest of the series, is IP69 water and dust resistant.
The LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 2688×1216 has a variable refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. The Mate 70 Pro (164.6 x 79.5 x 8.2 mm, 221 g) has a diagonal of 6.9″, otherwise the screen has the same parameters. Both have a peak brightness of 2500 nits and second-generation Kunlun Glass protection — tempered basalt fiber glass. The smaller device is equipped with a 13 MP camera for selfies, and Huawei Mate 70 Pro additionally has a 3D Depth sensor for face unlocking.
Unlike their predecessors, the new Mate 70 models return to the side fingerprint scanners in the power button. This button also combines intelligent controls: turning on the flash, artificial intelligence assistant, and mute by double or long pressing.
The main 50 MP camera of both smartphones has a variable aperture of f/1.4-f/4.0 and optical stabilization. They also have a 40 MP ultra-wide-angle lens. Huawei Mate 70 has a 12 MP periscopic lens with 5.5x optical zoom, and the Pro model has a 48 MP 4x lens.
The most interesting is the special cgtnhe sensor located in the middle of the camera island. Unlike the traditional RGGB or RYYB sensors on past Huawei phones, the new spectral imaging modules can collect more data, which results in improved color accuracy, natural skin tones, and better shadow reproduction.
Huawei does not officially disclose details of its processors. This time, too, there are only assumptions and leaks that all new Mate 70 series phones are equipped with Kirin 9100. Unofficially, it is known that this is a 6 nm chip, which is created using the SMIC N+3 process and has a Cortex-X1 core with a clock speed of 2.67 GHz. We hope that disassembly will soon confirm the exact characteristics of the chips in the Mate 70 series.
Both phones will ship with Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4.3 operating system, with an update to the latest HarmonyOS Next expected. The Huawei Mate 70 has a 5300 mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, while the Mate 70 Pro has a 5500 mAh cell with faster 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. Both phones come in Spruce Green, Hyacinth Purple, Snow White, and Obsidian Black colors.
