Denis Villeneuve’s first «Dune» received ten «Oscar» nominations, but there was no director’s nomination in this list.
The actor Josh Brolin, who played the warlord of the House of Atrid, Gurney Halleck, in «Dune», believes that the Academy must correct this misunderstanding this year and nominate and then award Denis Villeneuve with a golden statuette.
«If he’s not nominated this year, I’ll stop acting in movies», — Brolin said in an interview Variety. «This movie was better than the first one. I thought my brain was going to explode while watching it. It’s masterful. Danny — is one of the best filmmakers ever. If the Academy Awards have any meaning, they will recognize him».
In total, «Dune» received 10 nominations for the «Oscars» (including a nomination for Best Picture) and won 6 awards: «Best Cinematography», «Best Visual Effects», «Best Original Score», «Best Production Design» and «Best Sound».
It’s quite possible that «Dune 2» will also be up for several «Oscars», but whether Villeneuve — will be on the list is a question. Previously Hans Zimmer was almost denied the nominationbecause the music in the second film exceeded the quota for repetitions from the original work.
As for the third «Dune», according to Vilniov, it will become «a completely different story»:
