Kia has unveiled its new EV5 GT Line electric car. This is a crossover with a sporty character and a relatively affordable price compared to the Tesla Model Y. Although you will have to pay a lot more for the «sport» version.
The Kia EV5 GT Line is based on the standard EV5, which the company introduced last summer. The exterior of the novelty is characterized by a black design, accentuated by 20-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, the GT Line has a two-tone leather steering wheel and other black elements.
However, the difference in power is not as impressive as one might expect from a sporty modification. The GT Line version is equipped with a two-motor all-wheel drive system that develops 316 hp (233 kW). This is only 10 hp more than the standard model with all-wheel drive and a long range. It allows the EV5 GT Line to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 6 seconds. The range on the CLTC cycle is 580 km. Fast charging technology allows the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in 27 minutes.
Kia has also made some updates to the standard EV5 models. The interior now has a new blue-gray color scheme and a leather steering wheel. The company uses all-vegetable materials for the seats and door panels. Kia’s new ccNC infotainment system with two 12.3-inch center and driver displays is standard across the EV5 lineup. Electric folding exterior mirrors are also available.
The Kia EV5 measures 4615 mm long, 1875 mm wide and 1715 mm high. This makes it slightly smaller than the Tesla Model Y, which is 4760 mm long, 1921 mm wide and 1624 mm high. However, the EV5 offers a more affordable starting price than its Tesla competitor. The Kia EV5 starts at €18900, while the Kia EV5 GT Line starts at less than €27000.
