NetEase’s shareware shooter, Marvel Rivals, peaked at 444,286 simultaneous players on Steam upon release. The total number of gamers must have been significantly higher, as the game was also released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but Sony and Microsoft do not disclose statistics.
Gamers on Steam received the game well — 76% of over 6000 reviews are positive. The game took fifth place on the list of the most popular Steam games.
Along with the launch, the zero season called «Rise of Doom» started. Players got access to 33 free heroes, eight maps for fast and competitive modes, the «Conquest» map, and a training ground. The season’s plot revolves around Dr. Doom’s experiments with time.
The developers have prepared gifts for players: a free Iron Man costume, a seasonal event «Tangled Moments» with rewards, and a special promotion on Twitch.
