Megogo resident sentenced to a year in prison — tried to travel abroad with a «fake» unsuitability certificate

A programmer at Megogo, a streaming service from Kyiv, decided to go to distant lands to seek a better life. In order to cross the border in wartime, the man, who was liable for military service, resorted to tricks. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the case went to court.

So, on March 5, 2025, at 15:20, the IT specialist tried to cross the border control at the checkpoint «Yahodyn». He had carefully prepared for communication with border guards and made the necessary documents – almost similar to the real ones. The fake temporary certificate of a person liable for military service had «stamps» drawn» «REGISTERED for military service» and «DECLARED from military service». The fake document also contained a forged signature of the head of the institution indicated in the certificate.

Additionally, the programmer provided a fake certificate of the Military Qualification Commission No. 700 dated January 21, 2023 with false information about his unfitness for military service with exclusion from military registration. This document was «certified» with a false seal of the Holosiivskyi TCC and forged signatures of the chairman and secretary of the military medical commission.

Thus, the entire set of documents «required for traveling abroad was in hand. But border guards found the forgeries. When law enforcement officers began to investigate all the circumstances, it turned out that, in addition to using fake documents, the man was not registered with any military commissariat at all.

The case of the failed IT specialist was considered by the Liuboml District Court of Volyn Oblast. The programmer pleaded guilty to the offense, telling the court that he really intended to cross the state border of Ukraine and provided forged military documents at the «Yahodyn» checkpoint. On April 16, the court found the IT specialist guilty of forgery and use of documents. For these offenses, the court sentenced him to a 1-year restriction of liberty. In addition, the offender has to pay a fine of UAH 850 and UAH 7,572.80 in expenses for forensic examinations. The relevant sentence contain on the website of the Unified Register of Court Decisions.

As a reminder, earlierTCC fined a man with a deferred finebecause the post office did not deliver the summons at the place of registration, and otherwise the man refused to receive a «military» call-up and received a fine from the TCC. The courts have reviewed these cases and issued appropriate decisions. But soon we may stop hearing about such cases, because the authorities wants to make non-public court decisions on mobilization evasion.
