The science fiction film «Mickey 17» starring Robert Pattinson» has received its first reviews and ratings. They were somewhat mixed, but the result is the same — the movie is a must-see for fans of the genre.
Currently, «Mickey 17» 86% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 28 reviews і 74 out of 100 points on Metacritic based on 16 reviews. The reviews praise Robert Pattinson’s brilliant performance, taking on several different roles at once, as well as the way director Pong Joon-ho has tackled the issues of capitalism, corruption and colonization in a dark sci-fi comedy; on the downside, the ending is supposedly a bit too long and inconsistent. «Mickey 17» is based on Edward Ashton’s novel «Mickey 7» and features Robert Pattinson as a kind of «expendable»: a rookie robot who is sent on a fatal mission to colonize the ice world of Niflheim, and each time «reprinted» anew with most of his memories intact. After the seventh death (in the movie, this number is increased to 17), Miki begins to realize his differences from the rest of the workers.
In addition to Pattinson, the cast includes Naomi Aki («Star Wars: Skywalker Rises»), Stephen Yang («Noah»), as well as Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo.
As mentioned above, «Mickey 17» was directed by Pong Joon-ho, known for his work on the Oscar-winning «Vermin» (Ho also brought in editor Yang Jinmo from the previous film), with visual effects by Dan Glass («Fantastic Beasts: The Deathly Hallows»), and Darius Honji (nominated for «Oscar» for «Bardo», «Okja») was responsible for cinematography.
The film will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on March 6.
