Lionsgate has released the official trailer for The Surfer, a movie starring Nicolas Cage about a conflict with a gang of surfers.
This is a psychological thriller directed by Lorcan Finnegan, known for «Vivarium» and «Nocebo». In the film, the actor plays a man who clashes with surfers when he returns to his hometown.
In the story, the protagonist returns to Australia with his teenage son after years of living in the United States. But an ordinary visit turns into a confrontation. The secluded beach where he grew up is now dominated by a local group of surfers who humiliate him right in front of his son. After that, he decides to stay on the beach — and starts a personal war for his past.
«Humiliated, he decides not to run away but to stay. His lonely protest turns into an uncompromising war — for respect, for dignity, for himself. Over the course of seven days, the tension builds, the boundaries are blurred, and the struggle becomes more and more brutal», — the film’s description says.
The film also stars Julian McMahon, Nick Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, Justin Rosniak, Rachel Roman, Finn Little and Charlotte Maggie.
The project was created by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions, and the script was written by Thomas Martin. According to Lionsgate, the film combines an atmosphere of psychological tension with the director’s distinctive aesthetic. The world premiere of «Surfer» took place at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where the film received a six-minute standing ovation. The official release of the film in Ukrainian cinemas will take place on May 8, 2025.
Earlier, an insider said that John Travolta and Nicolas Cage will play in the sequel to «No Face», which was announced back in 2019 year. The film will be directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett.
