Today, a number of media outlets published news with a sensational message that «Nova Poshta» planes will be opened to the skies and allowed to fly to Lviv and Kyiv. The ITC.UA editorial team asked the press service of the «Nova Poshta» group of companies for a comment and got to the bottom of the situation.
To begin with, the information about the opening of the sky for flights is not true. Yes, Supernova Airlines of the Nova Group («Nova Poshta») has received permission to operate scheduled international air transportation from and to Ukraine: to operate the «Lviv – Prague – Lviv» and «Kyiv – Prague – Kyiv» air lines. The permit is valid from 01.11.2024 for an unlimited period.
But in fact, this is a technical permit that precedes the permission to fly within Europe. At the same time, the skies over Ukraine will continue to be closed. The real news is that Supernova Airlines has received permission to operate charter flights within the EU.
On October 17, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) granted the company a Part-TCO, which is required for non-European airlines. This means that Supernova Airlines will be able to operate commercial flights in the EU skies, with final preparations for which are currently underway.
It is noted that strategically, the airline is focused on long-haul flights from the US to Europe, from China to Europe, and will also be ready to operate charter flights on behalf of third-party customers, in accordance with the capabilities of the Boeing 737-800SF.
Supernova Airlines was founded in 2021. The company received an operator’s certificate number UA 062. This enables the company to launch its own cargo flights.
