Only 4% of the world’s population owns bitcoin, but Ukraine is not lagging behind

Global level bitcoin acceptance is only 3%, and 4% of people own digital gold. By the way, according to current data Worldometer, the world’s population is 8.2 billion.

Among those who own bitcoins, 70% are individuals, and only 4.4% are legal entities. The largest number of owners of the first cryptocurrency is in the United States: 14%. Overall, BTC ranked 11th in the list of currencies in terms of money supply, according to the River Bitcoin Adoption Report 2025.

Unfortunately, the document does not provide specific data on Ukraine. However, in the context of financial instability, cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, are gaining in popularity. Perhaps that is why the interest in BTC and the number of holders in Ukraine is somewhere on the average level.

According to the River Bitcoin Adoption Report 2025, Ukraine’s bitcoin adoption rate is probably below the global mark of 4%, but the country fits into the report’s narrative of bitcoin flourishing in regions looking for a financial alternative.

Not the least of which is the fact that bitcoins are actively used in Ukraine for crowdfunding during the war. According to Elliptic data, as of 2023, has donated more than $212 million in cryptocurrencies.
