In March 2024, Forbes identified 21 token-“zombies” with XRP at the forefront, referring to assets that were barely used in practice, except for speculative trading. However, the recent surge in the market value of these quasi-dead tokens forced the crypto community to recall this Forbes publication.
According to journalist Colin Wu, the list includes XRP Ledger (XRP), Litecoin (LTC), Cardano (ADA), Algorand (ALGO) and others. The median was an annual growth of 56.06%, and the average profitability is 68.11%.
The most efficient “zombie token” in this list turned out to be BTC (Bitcoin) with a profitability of 122.37% since the beginning of the year. The next best performers are:
- XLM (Stellar) — 294.43% since the beginning of the year
- XRP — 317.54%
- ALGO (Algorand) — 147.08%
The poorest performers among the “zombie” tokens are:
- MINA — -38.20%.
- EGLD (Elrond) — -30.57%.
- BSV (Bitcoin SV) — -24.20%.
In particular, XRP managed to return to the top three in market capitalization by the end of this year, and Fantom (FTM) underwent rebranding and is now called Sonic Labs, and announced an airdrop worth $220 million.
