Samsung has announced updated versions of its Galaxy XCover7 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro ruggedized tablets and smartphones. These devices are designed to be used in environments where they may get dirty, wet, or subjected to shock. Both new products have improved battery life, and the tablet has an additional advantage: the «double hot swap» battery function, which allows you to replace the battery without completely shutting down the device.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro is equipped with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 mobile processor, 6 or 8 GB of RAM, and 128 or 256 GB of storage. It has a 10.1-inch LCD display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and increased touch sensitivity, which allows you to use it with gloves.
The previous version of Samsung’s tablet had a removable battery and the ability to work via USB-C without a battery — this was useful in warm environments where there is a risk of overheating or battery expansion. The Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro retains this feature, but now it’s expanded: the dual hot-swap function allows the tablet to work continuously when there are charged batteries.
However, although the tablet does not completely shut down while the battery is being replaced, Samsung clarifies that it will be partially unusable at this point. If the battery is removed while the device is on, the screen turns off and some functions become unavailable. Once replaced, the screen turns back on and all functions are restored.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro is IP68-rated — it can withstand immersion in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. The device has a 12-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. The new product runs on Android 15.
The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro smartphone also runs on Android 15 and features the same Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. Its 6.6-inch 120Hz LCD display has enhanced sensitivity for glove use, and Vision Booster mode makes it easier to read the screen in bright sunlight.
Other features include an improved stereo system with echo cancellation technology, which is useful when using the device in hands-free mode. Also mentioned are a larger 4350 mAh battery, IP68 protection, and certification for disinfectant compatibility — important for medical facilities, for example.
The Galaxy XCover7 Pro smartphone will go on sale from May 8, 2025, and the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro tablet will be released a little later — in June 2025. Samsung has not yet announced the price of either device.
