Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared additional information about the smart display that Apple engineers are currently working on. He claims that the device will be mounted on the wall, will be able to control smart home devices, work with video calls, etc., similar to Amazon Echo Hub. The smart display and Apple will work independently, but an iPhone is required to complete the initial setup.

The iPad-like device will have a 6-inch screen with thick bezels, a built-in camera, battery, and speakers. It will support voice control with Siri and Apple Intelligence. The presentation of the smart display is expected in March next year.

If the rumors are true, this smart display will become a centralized tool for controlling HomeKit-compatible devices such as lighting, security cameras, sensors, thermostats, etc. Apple is planning to expand its smart home ecosystem, as, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company plans to start producing a smart home security camera in 2026.

The smart display and Apple will use a new operating system, which, according to the description, resembles a combination of the Apple Watch OS and the recently launched StandBy mode on the iPhone.

The display is supposed to be equipped with sensors to determine the distance to a person in order to customize the display of content depending on how far the user is from the screen. Apple’s display is also likely to support the Handoff feature, which allows you to continue performing tasks on different devices.

Apple has reportedly developed several options for the display bases, allowing it to be mounted on a wall or placed on a tabletop using a stand with additional speakers. The device will be available in silver and black colors.

According to Gurman, the company is also working on a more expensive version with a robotic arm that can tilt and rotate the screen.
