Korean studio Shift Up, which created Stellar Blade, has generously rewarded its employees for their work on the action-adventure game.
As reported by VGC, about 300 Shift Up employees received a PS5 Pro at the company’s year-end party, as a bonus for the New Year. They were also given about 5 million won (about $3400) each. The studio notes that such bonuses are meant to “encourage the existing talent at the company.”
Last year, Shift Up made its initial public offering on the stock exchange— the biggest in the country for the past three years (for video game companies), raising 435 billion won ($320 million) on the first day of trading. The studio says it plans to use the IPO proceeds to “diversify its game portfolio.”
Currently, the largest owner of the studio is Hyung-Tae Kim, who founded it in 2013, while Tencent Holdings is the second-largest shareholder.
Stellar Blade debuted last year on PlayStation 5 and, according to Shift Up, sold 1 million units worldwide. The company also stated that it is “exploring options” for developing a sequel to Stellar Blade and plans to release the original game on PC in 2025.
“Considering recent trends such as the increasing market share of Steam in the AAA game sector and the global success of Black Myth: Wukong, we expect PC performance to exceed that on consoles,” the studio stated.
