Last night, a Tesla Supercharger charging station cabinet exploded in Washington state. The explosion is believed to have been caused by a homemade bomb. Local police and the FBI are currently investigating the incident.
The 12-unit Tesla Supercharger station in Lacey has been temporarily closed as the explosion damaged the electrical cabinet that supplies power to the chargers. The FBI and local police are investigating the situation as a potential bomb threat.
Tesla commented on the situation in a post on X:
«We are on the scene with Lacey Police and the FBI, reviewing the camera footage. We are also coordinating with Puget Sound Energy to get the chargers back online as soon as possible. We do not want to touch critical infrastructure.»
Puget Sound Energy — is a local energy company that supplies electricity to the Supercharger station.
Lacey police also issued a statement:
«At 1:34 a.m. today, police responded to a vandalism call after multiple reports of a loud bang. Officers found a damaged electric vehicle charging station at the Target store at 665 Sleater Kinney RD SE.»
The police confirmed that the FBI had joined the investigation.
Over the past two months, mass protests have been taking place around the world, especially in the United States, near Tesla facilities. Many are calling for a boycott of the company, which is perceived as Elon Musk’s personal «wallet» vehicle for financing Donald Trump and a symbol of promoting the rise of fascism in the United States.
In addition to peaceful protests, there have been more violent acts, such as vandalism, arson of Tesla cars, and sabotage of charging stations. In most cases, vandalism is investigated by local law enforcement, but it is noticeable that since the beginning of the year, the FBI has been increasingly involved in such cases.
President Trump and his attorney general have defined any vandalism against Tesla — the company controlled by Trump’s main political donor Elon Musk — as as «domestic terrorism». This gave the FBI the authority to investigate.
In turn, the FBI confirmed that it had set up a special team to investigate acts of vandalism against Tesla.
As a reminder, during the recent fire at the Tesla store in Rome 17 electric vehicles burned down. Previouslywas reportedabout the fire in a Tesla store in France, where 12 cars were destroyed.
