The Alters, a sci-fi survival game about clones, got a trailer and a release date — demo is already on Steam

11 bit studios has announced the release date of its next big project, the sci-fi survival game The Alters.

The story centers on Ian, an ordinary laborer who is stuck on a strange planet with a three-day timer until the sun destroys all life. The only way to survive is to create clones of himself, but they will have different life choices, experiences, and emotional problems. Something The project is reminiscent of This War of Mine because the developers had the same approach with difficult moral choices and survival.

All «alters» have unique skill sets — someone is a nerd, someone is an engineer, someone digs, and someone is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. In one part of the trailer, the nerd Yan ignores food production because he’s trying to contact his wife. And another miner, Jan, after a series of injuries and stress, decided to saw off his hand.

Each of the clones has their own goals and motivations, and some of them can’t stand it and just explode mentally — and then the whole group feels the consequences. The player in The Alters will have to manage the team, find a balance between resources, research, and making sure that the clones don’t fight.

The player will have to go to the surface of the planet to search for resources, build infrastructure, build bridges, and somehow survive in an environment that wants to devour you. The trailer showed new biomes with anomalies that are either immediately visible or require the use of special tools. One wrong step and the hero gets radiation damage: the suit is eaten away by acid or everything goes into a black hole, including you.

The Alters will be released on June 13, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. And for those who are interested in the description and don’t want to wait any longer — the demo is already available on Steam.
