
It looks like, first reactions to a horror movie «The Monkey» based on Stephen King’s story, were not wrong — because official assessments and reviews after the embargo was lifted actually duplicated their results.
At the time of writing, Rotten Tomatoes has a new work by director Oz Perkins («Longlegs») has 90% «freshness»and the reviews praise the film for a decent (or even the best) adaptation of Stephen King’s works, which perfectly managed to combine elements of humor and horror. Here are some direct quotes:
Amy Killy, Collider: «The Monkey — is further proof that Perkins is one of the rare horror filmmakers who can strike a great balance between comedy, suspense, and the kind of gore and disgust that has been missing from mainstream horror for years».

The plot of «The Monkey» is based on the short story of the same name by Stephen King, which was published in 1980 and included in the collection «Skeleton Crew» five years later. The story centers on twin brothers Bill and Hal (both played by Theo James) who find an old toy in the attic and thereby «awaken something dangerous». After a series of deaths, the toy is thrown away, but this is not enough to stop its terrifying power.
Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany («Hulk Woman: The Counselor») and Christian Convery («Sweet Tooth») also take on key roles in «Monkey.
The film will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on February 20.
