Australian computer scientist Craig Wright, known for his claims that he is the creator of Bitcoin Satoshi Nakamoto, received a suspended sentence of one year for violating court orders.
He also must cover costs amounting to £145 thousand (approximately $180 thousand) after the British judiciary found him guilty of five instances of contempt of court. This happened due to his actions in October, when he, contrary to previous decisions, filed lawsuits against cryptocurrency developers totaling over $1.2 trillion.
In his lawsuits, Wright again insisted that he was the creator of Bitcoin, despite the fact that the court had already declared these claims to be false. It was previously proven that his evidence was forged.
Jonathan Haff, representative of the Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance (COPA), stated that Wright’s actions were intended to cause “maximum stress to developers and bloggers.” According to Haff, Wright’s legal threats were “a desperate public stunt to maintain the interest of his followers.”
The court also dismissed Wright’s accusations of bias in the British legal system, where he claimed to be a victim of the “British aristocracy.”
Wright participated in the session via video link from an undisclosed location in Asia, refusing to disclose his whereabouts. He also refused to appear in person, demanding £240 thousand ($300 thousand) to cover his expenses.
The court decided on a suspended sentence of one year with a two-year deferral and payment of costs within the specified term. Wright plans to appeal this decision.
This case has dealt another blow to Wright’s reputation. In a previous decision, the court described him as an “extremely unreliable witness” who “repeatedly lied.” The court also emphasized that the real Satoshi Nakamoto is likely a billionaire, as he owns about 1 million bitcoins.
By the way. This fall, another Satoshi Nakamoto was found in London. The presentation of evidence to the press was extremely impressive. But not for the reason attendees expected.
