Kharkiv-based studio Bear Games has presented the first gameplay trailer for Comix Zero, an adventure video game set in the pages of an interactive comic book.
Players will control a character named Zero, who travels between panels of artwork and breaks through the boundaries of the pages. The main feature of the game is a unique combat system where the character defeats enemies by depriving them of their colors.
The developers have implemented an unusual mechanic: after each death, the protagonist loses some of his memories. This affects the dialogues with other characters and changes the plot development, which provides a variety of passages.
Bear Games has combined the concept of metroidvania with the Elden Ring approach to building locations. Players will be able to explore the world without necessarily discovering new abilities — only their own skills are enough. The combat system focuses on the accuracy and timing of actions, not just button pressing.
The game will be released on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The developers have not yet announced the release date.
